Eligibility

for the Travelling Fellowship – Rome Residency

  1. The applicant must be an Australian citizen, preferably resident in NSW or the ACT during the Fellowship selection process. It is part of the selection process that the applicant is able to attend the award ceremony with three artworks. So a talented, interstate artist is eligible if this is possible.
  2. The applicant must be a practitioner who is applying in one or more of three fields: painting, drawing, sculpture. There are no ceramic facilities at the school, so an artist in this area would be required to support their work with drawings.
  3. The applicant must satisfy at least two of the following three criteria:
    1. training*: have completed a tertiary visual arts course, or equivalent;
    2. exhibition: have held a substantial exhibition at a recognised gallery;
    3. award: have received a significant commission, grant or public prize.

* Preference may be given to a graduate who is not less than three, and not more than ten, years from completing a tertiary visual arts course, or equivalent.

Also note:
Past awardees have ranged in age from 25 years to 59 years.
Past finalists have included artists practising in the fields of oil/watercolour painting, drawing/animation and sculpture.
